Pillar 05

Burnout & Nervous-System Recovery

You can't sleep your way out of burnout. You can't journal your way out. You can't take a holiday and expect it to fix something a holiday wasn't the cause of.

Burnout isn't tiredness — it's a nervous system that has been in fight-or-flight or fawn-and-freeze for so long that it has forgotten the path back to baseline. Your body is no longer responding to rest because rest is no longer registering as safe. You go on holiday and feel worse.

This pillar is for people whose burnout has stopped responding to the obvious interventions. The high-achievers, the founders, the carers, the people whose identity got too tangled up in capacity and now find capacity gone. We cover nervous-system level recovery, the difference between exhaustion and chronic stress, and why "self-care" advice often makes high-functioning burnout worse.

The body doesn't keep score. The body is keeping you alive. Recovery is about teaching it that you're no longer in the situation that required the lockdown.
